Art Classes

The TCK team has designed the art class levels as a guideline to recognize individual talents based on technical skills, artistic experience, creativity and personal style. Experienced instructors who are artists by trade and art teacher practitioners teach the TCK art classes. The art class levels consist of:

Using a step-by-step method, students learn how to break down objects into basic shapes and learn about mixing and blending colors and shading. Students will be guided to use a variety of media such as graphite, pastels and watercolors. As the student displays confidence and growth in this method, he/she will be introduced to a variety of subject matter, including landscapes, basic still life set-ups, and other subject matter of choice with teacher approval. The student will work from a variety of representational and non-representational subject matter. At this level the student is expected to know the fundamentals of art in order to use them to solve artistic problems and will begin to critique his/her own work according to these fundamentals. The instructor will continue to guide the students in this process and will give them a variety of artistic problems to solve in order to help refine their artistic skill. The students at this level will be introduced to teacher-led group critiques. Objectives for the level 3 students include:

This level is geared mostly towards those students wishing to pursue art in higher education and would like guidance in creating a portfolio. The students will be given various artistic problems to solve and will work to solve them in their own style. At the completion of a project there will be a group critique in order to encourage and help each other refine their skills. Students at this level are expected to work at home as well as in the classroom. Objectives for the level 4 students include:

Fashion Design Illustration (see schedule/Fee)
Do you love fashion and style and want to come up with your own style? The focus of this class is on fashion design illustration. Students practice and learn fashion figure drawing and fashion design illustration techniques. Students will buildup their sketchbook with design inspiration, fashion illustrations and fabric renditions. A variety of media such as watercolors, pastels. coloring pencils and markers will be used. Students should bring in their own 8 ½ x 11” sketch book or journal to capture their ideas.

To make arts accessible, TCK offers flexible schedule, low student/teacher ratio (7:1) with lots of one-on-one time to value student’s individual artistic abilities. Students will progress through at their own pace, moving on to the next level when they have achieved mastery of the current level.
